The assailants lie dead after being shot by police.

British police investigating last weekend’s deadly attacks on London Bridge said they arrested a 19-year-old man in east London on Sunday.

The Metropolitan Police, in a statement posted on its website, said the man was taken into custody at a south London police station and was being detained under the Terrorism Act.

Six other men are in custody in connection with last Saturday’s incident, in which eight people were killed and 48 were injured after three Islamist militants drove into pedestrians on London Bridge and stabbed people.

The latest arrest comes as Borough Market, where the attackers went on a stabbing spree, is expected to reopen this week. Traders have completed repairs and are ready to open for business once more.

Police have also released further details of the attack, including images of the knives used by Khuram Butt, Rachid Redouane, and Youssef Zaghba. An image of the fake suicide belt was also published by Scotland Yard.

Police also released a timeline of the attack last Saturday. They said:

  • June 3, morning: The attackers attempt to hire a 7.5-tonne lorry online on the day of the attack. They did not, however, provide payment details and the rental did not go ahead.
  • June 3, evening: Butt hires a white Renault van, using a recently-activated mobile phone.
  • 6.30 p.m. BST: The three men drive a red Corsa to Harrold Hill, Romford, to pick up the van.
  • 7.17 p.m. BST: The men arrive at an address in Barking where Zagbha lived. They stay at the property for a while before heading into central London.
  • 9.58 p.m. BST: The van travels from north to south on London Bridge. It then turns and heads back in the other direction. Once at the north end, it does a U-turn and heads back southwards down the bridge, hitting pedestrians.
  • 10.07 p.m. BST: The van crashes into railings on the south side of London Bridge and is abandoned. The attackers run into Borough Market and stab people.
  • 10.08 p.m. BST: Police receive the first call to the incident.
  • 10.16 p.m. BST: The attackers are shot dead in a hail of 48 bullets.
