ROSMAH HAS NO CHOICE: IF MO1’S WIFE REFUSES TO SURRENDER HER DIAMONDS, DOJ WILL ISSUE AN ARREST WARRANT FOR THE GEMS – EVEN MORE SHAMEFUL FOR HER & NAJIB
The woman described as “the wife of Malaysian Official 1” by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) should emulate Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio and surrender the diamond gifts she received, which were allegedly acquired using funds stolen from 1MDB.
This is according to Parti Amanah Negara deputy youth chief Faiz Fadzil, who pointed out that in previous corruption cases, the authorities had moved to seize such items.
“It is the normal procedure as seen in cases by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) which confiscated luxury goods belonging to the former Johor exco and Sabah Water Department officials recently,” he said in a statement today.
Faiz was referring to MACC’s move to seize some 150 luxury handbags and a luxury MPV in March when former Johor exco Abd Latif Bandi was investigated for money laundering.
The MACC had in December last year also seized RM114.5 million in cash and assets of officials at the Sabah State Water Department who allegedly took kickbacks for projects.
The DOJ on late Thursday announced a planned seizure of an additional US$540 million in assets, allegedly acquired using funds stolen from 1MDB, bringing the total sum to US$1.7 billion.
US investigators believe at least US$4.5 billion of 1MDB funds were misappropriated.
Following this, DiCaprio handed several gifts given to him by Penang billionaire Jho Low and his associates, which were allegedly acquired using funds stolen from 1MDB.
According to the latest DOJ filing, the wife of Malaysian Official 1 allegedly received US$27.3 million in jewellery from Jho Low, including a 22-carat pink diamond.
