Police: 79 missing or presumed dead in the Grenfell Tower fire

Police confirmed on Monday morning that at least 79 people are missing or presumed dead from the catastrophic fire that ripped through Grenfell Tower in west London last Wednesday.
Of that 79, police have identified five people.
“We are supporting the families and the loved ones of each of those 79,” Metropolitan Police Commander Stuart Candy said in a statement.
Investigators have been working tirelessly over the last 48 hours to establish who is missing, and to identify the victims. Police will be releasing the names of the victims.
The number of missing or dead is expected to change, though police may not be able to identify everyone who died due to the intensity of the fire.
“It’s hard to describe the devastation the fire has caused,” Candy said.
Police released images inside Grenfell Tower that show the damage caused by the blaze.
An investigation into the fire is ongoing, which will include inquiries into how the building was constructed, the recent refurbishment, and fire safety measures.
“We will be looking at all criminal offences that may have been committed by any individual or any organisation,” Candy said.
