MALAYSIA TO BLACKLIST HK ACTRESS GRACE LAM? YES DO IT, LIOW BACKS IGP’S PROPOSAL

GEORGE TOWN – Bentong MP Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has expressed his support for the move proposed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to list Hong Kong actress Grace Lam as an unwelcome individual after a video of her allegedly being robbed in Bentong appeared to be staged.

“Blacklisting her would be the correct move to make,” Liow said.

“We take creating fake news seriously. It would create an impression that Malaysia is not safe, which could turn tourists away,” he said.

“Lam should also come forward to explain her actions,” he said after a Penang MCA interactive session with women representatives at Lot 33 in Prangin Mall yesterday.

On Saturday, Lam was using the live streaming function on Facebook in Bentong, when a man suddenly snatched her handbag.

She allegedly told a Hong Kong newspaper that her manager and local friend gave chase and retrieved her belongings.

However, she later apologised on her Facebook, saying it was a “misunderstanding” but did not clarify further.

Local Chinese dailies reported that Khalid said the police would suggest that Lam to be put under the “no welcome list” to stop her from entering Malaysia.

He said police would not investigate Lam for now, but Lam must clarify that the video was staged because otherwise, she showed that she had malice towards Malaysia.

At the Penang event, Liow, who is MCA president, also urged the people to embrace changes to push forward the National Transformation 2050 for the country’s development.

“As we are discussing the vision for the country in 30 years, the voice of the women plays a crucial role. We cannot neglect their opinions,” he said.
