‘I WILL COMMENT TOMORROW’: WHAT STORY WILL NAJIB COOK UP ON ZAKARIA-ISA FEUD AT FELDA EVENT ON SATURDAY?

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak  will address issues on the Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) boardroom tussle at an event in Kulai, Johor, on Saturday.

“I will comment tomorrow when I go to a Felda event. I will speak on it,” said Najib, who is also Umno president, at a press conference after the party’s supreme council meeting on Friday.

The FGV boardroom tussle began when the company’s CEO Datuk Zakaria Arshad and three other officers were asked to take an indefinite leave of absence pending an internal probe to look into alleged wrongdoing involving several million ringgit from Delima Oil-Safitex, an Afghan company with an array of businesses and headquartered in Dubai.

On Wednesday, Zakaria spent four hours at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya to assist in the probe on the business dealings between Delima Oil and Safitex.

The MACC also conducted an eight-hour operation at FGV’s headquarters on Thursday to retrieve documents related to its probe on alleged improprieties involving the company.

Former Minister and Pemandu CEO Datuk Seri Idris Jala has been appointed by the Prime Minister’s Office as an independent party to gather facts on the case in light of recent events.

Meanwhile, when asked on the preparations for the Pujut by-election in Sarawak, Najib said the Barisan Nasional candidate would be decided soon.

“I will negotiate with the Sarawak Chief Minister to determine the most suitable Barisan candidate,” he said.

The by-election for the Pujut seat was called after its incumbent, Dr Ting Tiong Choon, was removed by the Sarawak Legislative Assembly on May 12 for allegedly possessing Australian citizenship.

The Election Commission has set July 4 for polling and June 20 for nominations.
