The Oldest Malaysian To Climb Mount Everest Forced To Cancel Ascent
So close yet so far.
James Lee Chong Meng, the oldest Malaysian to ever attempt to climb Mount Everest, was forced to cancel his ascent to the summit. The 69-year-old was rushed to a hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal on Saturday after he reportedly experienced severe chest pain on Saturday.
Mount Everest Expedition (MEE) Lions public relations officer Sherine Leong told Bernama that Lee was still in the hospital and he is scheduled to fly back to Malaysia in a couple of days' time.
According to the news agency, Lee was supposed to climb to Camp 3 on Saturday before making his way to the summit at 8,848-metre altitude from Camp 4, but on Thursday, he reportedly began having difficulty breathing and experiencing severe chest pain while he was at Camp 2.
He was then rushed to the hospital in a helicopter.
This was the second time Lee was forced to cancel his ascent to the peak of the tallest mountain in the world.
In May last year, he managed to make it to Camp 3 before he was forced to cancel the final climb due to bad weather.
Like they say, third time's the charm, so we are pretty sure Lee is going to conquer it next year.
