The BBC has apologised after a local radio station played a bizarre musical quiz based on the death of Moors Murderer Ian Brady.

On Sunday, BBC Radio Leeds played a series of songs and asked listeners to “guess the headline,” meaning they had to identify that the songs referred to Brady.

The four songs, or clues, presenter Nathan Turvey played listeners were:

  • “All The Young Dudes” — Mott the Hoople
  • “The Brady Bunch Theme Song”
  • “Suffer Little Children” — The Smiths
  • “Psycho Killer” — Talking Heads

The quiz was first spotted by the Radio Fail blog, while a BBC spokesman told trade website Radio Today: “This was clearly unacceptable and we apologise.” Business Insider has also contacted the broadcaster for comment.

The BBC Radio Leeds breakfast show has been removed from BBC catch-up service iPlayer.

And this is when the winner was announced:

Brady died last week aged 79. He and his partner, Myra Hindley, were jailed in 1966 after torturing and murdering three children together, although they later confessed to another two murders.

Four of the couple’s victims were buried on Saddleworth Moor, near Manchester, while the remains of the fifth child were never found.
