‘SNAKE IN THE GRASS’ PAS: AMANAH WARNS AGAINST SABOTAGE BY SELANGOR EXCOs DESPITE SULTAN’S OK
Selangor Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Youth has expressed concern over the possibility of PAS sabotaging the state in the next general election.
In view of this, the wing’s chief Abbas Azmin said Pakatan Harapan must form a state secretariat to handle the matter.
Although Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has decreed that the current exco line-up remains, he said this is still a matter of grave concern.
Abbas claimed that the PAS excos continued presence in the state government is viewed as a strategy by the Islamist party to face the 14th general election.
“The best description is ‘musuh dalam selimut’ (enemy within). How is it that you are divorced, but insist on staying under the same roof. Unless there is an ulterior agenda.
“We respect the decision of the sultan. But we are concerned PAS can sabotage Selangor,” he told a press conference in Shah Alam this afternoon.
Abbas said since PAS is not a member of the opposition coalition, the party could do as it pleased, and pointed to its warm ties with Umno.
“This is our concern. It is compounded by the fact that Umno wants to recapture Selangor,” he added.
Abbas said the secretariat should be formed as soon as possible in order to handle the possible problems from PAS.
“We will send letters to the four state chairpersons (of Harapan parties) regarding this matter. The secretariat should have representatives of all four parties,” he added.
On May 11, the PAS’ syural council upheld the decision of the muktamar to sever political ties with PKR, but its central working committee later decided that its excos would remain in the Selangor government.
Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehin Mukhyi said this is to honour the people’s mandate in the last general election.
He also claimed that while the excos would cooperate in administrative matters, the three would refrain from participating in political discussions.
Following this, PKR had ordered its members who held government positions in the PAS-led Kelantan to resign.
Yesterday, Sultan Sharafuddin said the PAS excos would be retained in their respective positions to ensure the continued stability of the state government.
The three excos are Zaidy Abdul Talib, Iskandar Abdul Samad and Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi.
