EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: NAJIB’S AIDE TENGKU SARIFUDDIN TO FACE DR M IN COURT FOR ‘DEFAMATION’ AGAINST MUKHRIZ

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir will call former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as witnesses in the case against the Prime Minister’s press secretary Datuk Seri Tengku Sarifuddin Tengku Ahmad.

Mukhriz’s counsel Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla added that High Court judge Justice Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim had fixed July 13-14 and Oct 19-20 as the trial dates.

“Other than my client, who will give his evidence, we will call Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin as our witnesses in the trial,” he said after meeting with the judge in chambers on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Tengku Sarifuddin’s counsel Ooi She Yi said they would be calling three witnesses, including the defendant.

In the suit filed on May 3, last year, Mukhriz said Tengku Sarifuddin had issued four libellous media statements against him on April 15, 20, 23 and 26.

The former Kedah mentri besar said he had given notice through a media statement on April 21 asking Tengku Sarifuddin to retract his statements or risk legal action.

Mukhriz claimed that the statements implied that he was directly involved with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his father Dr Mahathir in a bid to topple the Government.

He is seeking for damages for loss of reputation.
