BA cancellations highlight airlines' increasing IT risk, says Fitch Ratings
KUALA LUMPUR (June 1): The cancellation of British Airways' (BA) flights from Heathrow and Gatwick airports over the weekend highlights growing IT risk as airlines rely on increasingly complex systems to manage operations, according to Fitch Ratings.
In a statement on its website yesterday, Fitch however said it expects a limited impact on BA's credit metrics.
The ratings agency said it estimated the cost for BA's computer outage at about £75 million, which includes general operating costs and cancellation-related compensation and rebooking for passengers.
