'American Idol' revival is officially happening thanks to ABC
That didn't take long.
American Idol is being revived for a new season — but much like the many singers who have passed across its stage over the years, it's getting a makeover.
After 15 seasons on Fox, the juggernaut franchise is being resurrected by ABC. The network has a deal with the show's original producer, FremantleMedia, to bring the singing competition that started it all back to our screens for the 2017-2018 season.
“American Idol on ABC... that has a nice ring to it,” said Ben Sherwood, co-chairman of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney|ABC. "Idol is an entertainment icon, and now it will air where it belongs, in ABC’s lineup of addictive fan favorites alongside Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor.
