MSNBC host Rachel Maddow teased her Tuesday night program in a series of tweets promising a bombshell revelation of President Donald Trump’s tax returns.
The first social-media post alluded to Maddow’s possession of the documents.
BREAKING: We’ve got Trump tax returns. Tonight, 9pm ET. MSNBC.

She then offered some specifics regarding what she planned to discuss on air.

Shortly after Maddow’s announcement, the White House released a statement calling her “desperate” for ratings.

Trump’s tax information has been a consistent topic of criticism from political opponents who have urged him to release past returns.
As a candidate, he repeatedly refused such requests, saying his returns were under audit by the Internal Revenue Service.
Days after Trump’s inauguration, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway reiterated the president’s decision not to release his taxes — at least until after the audit has been completed.
“People don’t care,” she said at the time of Trump’s financial statements.
Based on the reaction to Maddow’s tweets, there is palpable interest in Trump’s among some viewers.
