BREAKING: Trump Jr. Just Responded To MSNBC’s Tax Return ‘Bombshell’ With Just 2 Words
After promising to present a portion of President Donald Trump’s 2005 tax returns on her MSNBC program Tuesday night, Rachel Maddow left many critics of the administration wanting more.
The White House preemptively released a statement that took some of the wind out of the host’s sails by indicating how much Trump paid in taxes that year.
Even as Maddow built up to the supposed bombshell on air Tuesday, many Twitter users expressed skepticism about the importance of the leaked tax information.
Shortly after the program ended, however, she received some praise from an unlikely source.
Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son, posted a series of tweets Tuesday thanking Maddow for releasing information he said did nothing to help those critical of his father’s decision not to release his tax returns.
Thank you Rachel Maddow for proving to your #Trump hating followers how successful @realDonaldTrump is & that he paid $40mm in taxes! #Taxes

He went on to mention another cable news network he claimed was “upset” by the underwhelming presentation.
Now @CNN is upset that the returns that they have been dying to get their hands on for 18 months are out but it doesn’t fit their narrative!

In a third tweet on the subject, Trump Jr. described the media’s reaction as “simply awesome.”
Watching the media aka #fakenews implode on tv now because they got what they wanted is simply awesome. #thankyoumaddow #TrumpTaxReturns

Maddow’s revelation, via journalist David Cay Johnston, who said he received Trump’s returns anonymously by mail, was generally panned by both critics and supporters of the Trump administration.
Trump Jr. was far from alone in snidely thanking Maddow for inadvertently making the president’s case. The contents of the released tax returns, many Twitter users pointed out, proved he paid a higher tax rate than many other prominent entities and public figures– including his predecessor, President Barack Obama.
